Explanation of the Organization Being Analyzed

Atlantic Women’s Cancer Associates, part of Atlantic Health System, is a

Gynecologic Oncology office at Carol G Simon Cancer Center in Morristown Medical

Center in Morristown, NJ. The office has another location at the Carol G Simon Cancer

Center in Overlook Medical Center in Summit, NJ. These centers cover Northern and

Central NJ, but the organization wants to expand into the Southern region. This

Oncology office specializes in women’s cancers such as Ovarian Cancer, Endometrial

Cancer, and Cervical Cancer. The physicians order their own chemotherapy and follow

patients throughout their chemotherapy treatments. They follow patients through

surveillance and continuance of care through the five years of remission. This is also a

surgical practice in which it does simple procedures as fibroid removals and endometrial

scrapings to complicated surgeries such as Hysterectomies. …very good…

Strengths

Our practice is one of the largest Gynecologic Oncology practices in NJ, there

are not many physicians practicing our specialty. Our providers have great reputations

as oncologists as well as surgeons. We strive on excellent customer service and have

had many patients transfer from other locations because they like the services we

provide. We have an integrative program that offers our chemo patients massages, reiki

services, yoga and other holistic approaches, free of charge. We have a large research

department that helps us place patients on clinical trials and help us come up with early

detection procedures. Our Nurse Navigator gives support to patients and helps them

navigate through services. We have partnered with Hunterdon Medical, a Southern

region company, and will share their office building. At Hunterdon there are other

specialists and primary care physicians that could be potential referrals. There is also a

radiology facility on site as well as potential for surgical and infusion centers. …very

Weaknesses

Atlantic Health System is not a well-known organization in the Southern region.

Until the practice builds up, we will not have office hours every day which will limit the

amount of available appointments. We also do not have enough staff to service another

office and may need to hire more people which may take while due to a decline in

Certified Medical Assistant applicants. The building we are sharing is not built out and

we would need to come up with up front costs to build out the office. We do not have a

hospital in the Southern region, so we would need to have our patients drive to one of

our hospitals for surgery and chemotherapy treatments. Our nearest hospital is about

thirty minutes away. …very good…
