Holistic Intervention Plan: Group Therapy for Adolescent Depression
The mental health of adolescents is in jeopardy as depression affects more adolescents
today. The planned intervention is a group therapy targeting adolescents who have depression
and are patients in the Larkin Community Hospital, Miami. The intervention aims to tackle the
health problem of depression and enable adolescents to cope effectively with mental health
problems that may affect them. This paper presents components of the intervention plan,
theoretical model to be implemented, stakeholders, and ethical and legal considerations to be
made in implementing the intervention.
Intervention Plan Components
The intervention plan involves adolescent group therapy for depression and depressive
symptoms. The first major component of the therapy is the identification and recruitment of
participants in group therapy. Basically, the practitioner will seek to recruit adolescents between
13 and 17 years old to the intervention. The main criterion for recruitment is that adolescents
must be seeing a psychologist at Larkin Community Hospital, Miami. The parents of the
adolescents also have to provide informed consent for the treatment process. This component is
essential for the group participation for ethics purposes. The group therapy plan integrating the
needs of every participant is another component (Cheung et al., 2018). The therapy plan is
adopted from the group therapy manual for cognitive behavioral treatment (CBT) targeting
depression by (Cheung et al., 2018). This component is important because it guides the group
sessions by defining the structure, activities, and length of the entire intervention. It is thus
central to the holistic intervention plan.
In addition to recruitment and the therapy guide, other components include a schedule
