Apples iPhone Business Proposal
Executive Summary
In January 2007 the Apple computer company changed its name to Apple Inc (Jeffrey &
Simon, 2005, p. 35). This was announced by its Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder Steve
Jobs. Steve revealed the long awaited iPhone (Honan, January 9, 2007). The iPhone is a
combination of the iPod and the Internet-enabled smart phone. In June the following year he
announced the iPhone 3G would be released in July. This new device adds support for
networking 3G and assists navigation of GPA in addition to other things. Apple plans on focusing
on consumer satisfaction and demands rather than fulfilling a demographic requirement. By
focusing on these areas they are able to develop and ensure reliability of the device before adding
new features to the product.
The iPhone targets consumers who love communication, entertainment, and a variety of
technology related applications and services. The target segments of Apple compromise of
students, corporate users, medical professionals, and entrepreneurs. Currently, the iPhone has
limited competitors in their industry (Honan, January 9, 2007). Consumers are looking for PDA
features that are at an affordable price. Cellular phones are more in demand compared to smart
phones. Their market will increase rapidly in the future due to more technology advancements
and lower prices.
