Definition
Conflict resolution refers to two or more conflicting parties using a formal or informal process to
come to a peaceful solution on the issue that made them have a dispute (Shonk, 2020).
Summary
Katie Shonk is a research associate for Harvard Business School having a Bachelor’s degree and
a Master's in creative writing from the University of Texas. She is the editor of a newsletter for
Negotiations Briefings published monthly to advise professionals at Harvard Law School ("Katie
Shonk", n.d.). She has written several articles and among them is what conflict resolution is and
how it works. She defines conflict resolution as the process of two conflicting parties coming to
an agreement on their dispute. Some of the ways of resolving conflict include justify from the
point of fairness and not taking sides. Another way to resolve conflict is to avoid being
overconfident when making a judgment that usually leads to unrealistic expectations. Negotiators
should avoid escalating their commitment to what they have chosen as their course of action.
They should have the ability to lower negative emotions between the conflicting parties. When
negotiating, one should consider the interest of both parties (Shonk, 2020).
Analysis
The article relates to conflict resolution as it gives a solution of actions to take as a
negotiator. In addition to that, I consider conflict, change, and argument as part of our day-to-day
life and will always arise when working with different people. The disagreements that bring
about conflict can be due to political, financial, personal, or emotional. Therefore, the best action
to take to resolve the conflict is a negotiation with the goal of producing a solution that the two
