EFFECTIVE AND EFFICIENT EHR AND CODING RESOURCES 2
Effective and Efficient EHR and Coding Resources
A coding supervisor will require effective and efficient EHR and coding resources to
ensure that their work is transparent and accurate. Nuance Clintegrity coding resources cater to
both physician and facility coding. The system has an ICD-10 as well as a Healthcare Common
Procedure Coding system (HCPCS) that allows coders to edit the entries made. The system holds
massive databases that enable organizations to have materials to reference from thereby unifying
coding rules and guidelines for the institution. The most significant advantage of Nuance is its
singularity, centralization, and integration. These factors improve transparency in coding,
thereby promoting integrity. Besides, the single-platform simplifies the workflow allowing
professionals to have more time for patients ("Clintegrity Facility Coding - Best Encoder
Solution," 2020). Nuance Clintegrity’s disadvantages include the system’s speech recognition
system being outdated. The outdating is due to slow advancement in coding tools, which create
strategic dysfunctions for Nuance. The slow development in coding resources threatens
Nuance’s ability to develop products that comply with HIPAA and ICD-10 (Burlington, 2013).
Nuance Clintegrity computer system requirements are not demanding as the system is built to fit
into most computer systems. Nuance is compatible with most servers and allows institutions to
use a web-based interface. With sensitive data stored in Structured Query Language (SQL) and
making use of tools such as Transparent Data Encryption (TDE), data integrity is enhanced
("Nuance Clintegrity," 2020). This is essential as hospitals do not have to invest in new systems
to integrate Nuance Clintegrity into its coding procedures.
3M offers a variety of coding resources, including a Codefinder software, DRGfinder,
and HCPCS software, among others. The system translates codes, specify any gaps present, and
has an encoder that automates updates ("3M™ Coding and Reimbursement System Plus", 2020).
