Health disparities also include differences beyond racial health disparities. Although
racial health disparities contribute to a high amount of issues faced by patients who come from
different racial backgrounds, other healthcare disparities are also impactful and should be
considered. For example, mobility health disparities can limit patient access to healthcare
(Benitez et al., 2020). Thus, APRNs should consider any healthcare disparities for patients while
conducting health assessments, and that is aimed to incorporate the care plan in a way ensuring
equity. As mentioned, equity is beyond equality. It could be used to help people with a
healthcare disparity access healthcare at the same level obtained by people without noted
disparities. Furthermore, acknowledging that implicit bias present is required to reduce the
incidence of this unconscious bias in healthcare environments (Marcelin et al., 2019). As an
initial step, APRNs should evaluate their actions with different patients from different
backgrounds or who have different health conditions.
