Increased globalization has led to the companys operations on an international scale,
promoting the integration of different workforce, revealing diverse cultural traits and
backgrounds such as race, religions, and ethnicity, among other characteristics. Leading the
article, “The cultural challenges of managing global project teams: A study of Brazilian
multinationals,” by Rodrigues and Sbragia (2013), the aspect of internationalization has resulted
in a new reality in the business environment. Notably, globalization offers companies with a
broader market aiding in capturing new markets essential in the growth of revenue and
subsequent profitability, guaranteeing the business's future sustainability. Cultural diversity
culminates in diverse challenges in the process of executing a project at the global level. Based
on the article, communication is one of the significant challenges in a multicultural project team,
despite being a vital element in the project's success. Trust is another aspect discussed in the
article that affects multicultural teams in global projects, enhancing communication and flow of
work, leading to the success of the project execution.
In my former workplace, an international company operating in five global regions,
including China, Canada, Mexico, the UK, and the United States, I had an issue managing a
multicultural team in executing a new system that would connect the entire company. The main
challenge entailed communication, especially with the China team, which led to delayed project
implementation. Besides, different cultures observed different days as holidays, which resulted in
difficulty planning the project tasks affecting the project scope leading to increased project
execution duration. Overall, it was challenging working with a multicultural team. Nonetheless,
appointing a project manager in each of the regional offices enhanced the project's success
because I dealt with one person as opposed to the entire team. The strategy led to improved
