Google in China
Google moved with a wise strategy while going to serve in China. Google changed and
removed the problem areas to make the success in China absolute and definite. Whenever any
company goes to conduct business across borders or in country other than domestic one, it has to
observe the economic, legal, social, ethical environment and factors that have crucial impact on
success or failure of the company operations in that particular country. (Hamilton, Knouse &
Hill,2009) Google does this analysis carefully and changed the things that need to be changed in
China. It was the legal framework that created difference for Google to launch its services in
China. In China Google entered with aim to dedicate its services purely for Chinese in their
home country. Instead of Google Inc. it is launched its website as Google.cn for Chinese
browsing and searching over internet. In response to legal framework of Chinese government,
self-censorship of content of its website, Google got increased chances of success in its new
market.
While serving in China, Google needed to have services of Internet services providers on
professional basis, and in China, all ISPs required to self-censor and remove all contents from
their websites that is considered illegal from search results. China seemed to have great growth
potential and a competitive market for Google from financial perspective, but the decision to
self-censor its website was criticized a lot at that time. (Rourke , Harri, & Ogilvy,2007) Google,
before its entry to Chinese market, had been set itself apart from its big competitors and
successfully serving millions of users. It was the great deal of discussion and debate that was
generated by decision of Google to self censor the content, resultantly, Google and international
community was forced to re-examine the implications and decision of Google for self
