Lean II. Six Sigma III. 5S quality model History of Lean Methodology • The history of lean involves the luminaries such as Kiichiro Toyoda, Henry Ford, Ohno and other. • It started in 1450s in Venice where it spread to other parts. • The first person to integrate the concept of lean in manufacturing was Henry Ford in 1913. • In 1930s Toyota was inspired by Ford’s lean technique and developed the lean concept of Toyota Production System • The Toyota Production System is the pivotal of lean technique that aims reducing the cost of production, enhancing the quality of products and increasing the throughput times so that the dynamic customer needs are met. Lean Methodology • The main emphasis of Lean is on cutting out unnecessary and wasteful steps in service delivery • Lean thinking begins with driving out waste so that all the work in the health care serves the needs of the customers. • Lean uses a technique called Value Stream Mapping (VSM) • VSM is extremely useful for mapping the steps that a patient will take when visiting a clinician's office. ...
