example applicable to the practice of the nurse administrator.
The aspects of duties beyond individual patent encounter as addressed in the last three
provisions and accompanying interpretive statements in the Code include:
Advancement of the profession via active involvement in health care and nursing
policy. Whether in administration, education, practice, or research, nurses contribute to
the professional advancement through health policies and nursing generation, scholarly
and research inquiry, and development of professional standards (Lachman, Swanson, &
Winland-Brown, 2015). All nurses must engage in professional advancement through
application to practice, dissemination, evaluations, and development of knowledge.
Nurses participate in scholarly inquiries in expanding the knowledge body that forms and
advances the discipline practice and theory in all its fields. According to accepted
standards, nurse administrators create, promote, and sustain employment conditions that
allow nurses to practice. Self-regulation and professional autonomy are essential for
assuring quality care and for executing nursing guidelines and standards. Nurse educators
foster and sustain optimal education practices and standards in all settings where learning
activities take place.
Advancement of the profession by creating, implementing, and maintaining
professional standards in educational, clinical and administrative practices. Nurse
administrators and executives must develop the structures and promote the processes that
establish organizational infrastructures and climates favorable to scholarly inquiries.
