ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY 2
The Global Societal Issue of Climate Change
Introduction
Climate change is no longer a problem that can be ignored. Climate change is defined as
the periodic modification of the earths climate which results from the changes in the atmosphere
as well as the interaction that occur between the atmosphere and other factors such as biological,
geological, and chemical factors, among others. Climatic change is easily ignored as it occurs
over a long period of time. Unlike weather that can change in minutes, climatic change can take
decades for the change to be felt. Additionally, it takes place on a significantly wider scale than
the weather. However, the rate of climate change has recently accelerated to a devastating rate
over the past few decades (“NASA Overview.” 2019). Global temperatures are rising at an
alarming rate with each passing year. Similarly, the amount of carbon dioxide and other
greenhouse gases is also rising. Consequently, the snowcaps are increasingly melting and
causing large floods in flat areas. The worst thing is that climate change has long term effects.
Climate change is felt in every corner of the world. No nation is spared. Additionally, almost all
sectors suffer the effects of climate change, including health, agriculture, food supply, water, and
transport, just to mention a few. The effects are devastating since the issue affects key sectors in
our lives.
Thesis Statement
The major causes of climate change are human activities. Our very activities are what is
destroying our only habitat: Earth. It is, therefore, mandatory that we seek solutions to the causes
of climate change, lest our future generations will not have a place to live.
