THE PEREZ FAMILY ASSIGNMENT 2
THE PEREZ FAMILY
The significance of family and kinship for the Perez family
Family and kinship mean a lot for the Perez family. From the study, Perez's family is
bonded together by a blood relationship (kinship). Most of Perez's children live close to their
parents because of the family bond except the second-oldest daughter who lives out of the state.
All the children live just 3-10 miles from where their parents live. This implies that they value
togetherness or unity in their family. Besides, the provision of care and support are dominant in
Perez’s family because of kinship and family. Perez's second-oldest daughter is taking care of his
slow heartbeat condition, and she visits her family regularly. As the father, Perez was the
family's breadwinner during his employment years. Despite living in the U.S., Perez used to visit
his family in Mexico regularly throughout the years. This exemplifies family what we can term

generations. At the age of 76 years, Mr. Perez has six children, eleven grandchildren, and two
great-grandchildren. This implies that Perez’s generation is growing. Therefore, kinship and
family ensure the continuity of Perez’s generation.
The importance of religion and God for the Perez family
Religion and a strong belief in God have enabled the Perez family to live a healthy life.
Through a stronger belief in God, Mr. Perez and Mrs. Perez were able to have more children
even after the doctors discouraged them after their first child's complicated birth. This implies
that the Perez family has a strong testimony because God did a healing miracle to them. Also,
their faithfulness in God has kept their ailing father's surgeries successful, and his health has
been quite stable. Mr. Perez believes that God is the provider of health to his family. Also,
religion is uniting the members of the Perez family. On every Sunday, Perez family members
