SOFTWARE COMPARISON 2
Compare Excel and SPSS.
Similarities and Differences
SPSS and Excel are two data management software sharing multiple similarities and
differences. Similarities between the two are significant in various features and performance of
tasks. Tools for inserting graphics are some common features found in the two types of software.
For example, In Excel, it is possible to add shapes and pictures using the 'insert picture' command.
SPSS inputs graphics using the export tool where individuals select the specific graphic they intend
to input (Rustam & Mashuri, 2016). The main difference between SPSS and Excel is usage. The
SPSS software is best for performing complex analysis in statistics while Excel performs simple
computation. For example, SPSS enables users to perform a variety of analyses, such as linear
regression and ANOVA. On the other hand, Excel is composed of statistical concepts, such as
algebra, for simple statistical computations.
Discuss specific SPSS Software features that make it preferable to Excel for data
management
SPSS is characterized by a data viewer and a variable view for viewing data lacking in
Excel (McCormick & Salcedo, 2020). The variable view allows users to perform multiple tasks,
such as labelling, changing the form of variable, and rename items. The data viewer will enable
individuals to view data for a particular variable. Data management is made efficient and faster by
switching from one view to another, which involves clicking twice on the variable of interest.
