Consuming kids
Consuming Kids highlights the impact of exposing children to media content on their
future consumerism behavior. When children are exposed to the screen, they tend to be
brainwashed such that they become consumers of unnecessary products in the future. Basically,
the documentary unveils the evolution as well as the impact of such exposure and draw major
insights on the ill tactics used by marketers to sell useless product by developing imaginative
ideas in children (Barbaro & Earp, 2008).
The documentary seems focus on creating public awareness on the influence of
marketing, advertising, and overall media on the lives of children. Considerably, the amount of
content and the level of technology used daily keeps on increase (Barbaro & Earp, 2008). This
has made it easy for anyone to market and advertise products and services reaching as many
people as possible including children.
The negative aspect of it is the health effect such content has on minors. Children end up
being targeted by marketers through the use of psychological aspects, which almost translated to
using children as guinea pigs (Barbaro & Earp, 2008). They look at kids as objects with the
potential demanding their products to increase sales. Sadly, the rights of such children are
misused. It seems that children are being denied the right to experience their childhood by being
forced to live up to societal expectations.
