The number of patients enrolling for Medicare after considering the advantage of free
Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) tests has risen to equal the number of free
colonoscopies to test for colon cancer. The number of people aged sixty-five years and older
continue to dramatically rise in the United States (Emanuel, 2014).
Various intervention measures can be implemented for residents of an assisted living
facility. For example;
Nutrition: - under-nutrition and malnutrition are common challenges that are frequently
overlooked within the geriatric population. Geriatric patients with compromised eating habits
require extended hospital stays and may acquire more complications (Yoshikawa &
Rajagopalan, 2016). Nutritional health screening is administered to grade and help prevent
nutritional challenges in geriatric patients.
Sexuality: -although the sexuality activeness, intensity, and tempo may depreciate over time,
issues that associate with an individual’s power to have and enjoy sexual activities. Sexual
activities cannot be regarded as part of the natural aging process. Health activities are
affecting sexual operating include diabetes, arthritis, fatigue, side effects from alcohol, fear of
precipitating a heart attack, and over-the-counter prescription drugs (Alagiakrishnan &
Banach, 2020). Geriatric patients prefer discussions concerning sexuality, ask open and direct
questions, and receive treatment as ordinary persons (Alagiakrishnan & Banach, 2020).
Mental status: - modifications in mental conditions can have a significant influence on
geriatric patients and their close families. For example, two of the most common changes are
depression and cognitive decline (Emanuel, 2014).
In conclusion, comprehensive health examination and maintenance testing of the
elderly population is increasingly becoming a crucial task for primary health care.
