Today, increasing numbers of crimes are undeniably observed worldwide. Along with the
concepts of income, inequality; crimes had to get the attention of the majority. Two infamous
crimes notable in the criminal justice system are human trafficking and prostitution. The number
of human trafficking-related crimes has been so rampant; a domestic and global crime
prominent for organ harvest and sexual abuse, prostitution has also shown a significant impact
on the criminal justice system. With the noticeable younger age group involved in prostitution;
these quality topics are good to be studied and reviewed on to determine: Which state in America
has the highest number of prevalence of human trafficking-related crimes and prostitution-
related crimes?, Why there are human-trafficking and prostitution-related crimes? What
strategies are being implemented and adopted to control the number of crimes, respectively?
Human Trafficking: A Heinous Crime of Human Dignity
Human trafficking is both a domestic and global concern. An estimated 24.9 million people
are being trafficked throughout the world. At present, human trafficking is regarded as modern-
day slavery. Human trafficking is defined as a violent act of human recruitment, transportation,
and harbor deemed for labor and sexual acts (UNODC, 2020).
State with the Highest Number of Human Trafficking Related Crimes
An estimated 14,500 to 17,500 foreign individuals are being trafficked into the United
States annually. The majority of the foreign nationals are from Thailand, the Philippines, India,
Haiti, Honduras, El Salvador, and the Dominican Republic; U.S citizens are not an exception. In
2019, approximately 1507 cases were reported from the state of California, consistently making
it the state which has the largest number of human trafficking-related crimes and survivors,
followed by Texas (1080), Florida(896), and New York(454) (World Population Review, 2020).
