Roles performed by O.S are:
1. Process management: various processes are kept on running in our system. OS helps to
manage the state of each process so that each process gets the resources and memory
when required for proper function of the system
2. Memory management: O.S contains the translation lookaside buffer table which helps to
convert a virtual address into a physical address. these physical addresses are in the
memory of the system.
3. file management: creation of file, deletion, modification, accessing rights for a fie to a user,
these are done by OS.
4. I/O management: Allocating the I/o Devices for the processes that are in the ready queue is
done by OS
5. Provides security: providing the desired user the access capabilities for a file is maintained
by OS.
6. Performance management: Overall, performance of the resources of the system such as
C.P.U, processor execution time is handled by O.S
7. GUI: it acts as a bridge between user and hardware in the system. O.S maps the request of
the user to the hardware level in the system and thus provide extensive support for various
operations through its rich graphics interface.
