Johnson & Johnson Medical Ltd is a private company that has existed for over thirty
years registered under the U.K. Company Act. It specializes in the manufacturing of medical
and dental instruments and supplies. It operates in 60 countries where it sells its products in
more than 200 countries.
Porter's Model Strategy
J & J builds its business strategy based on Porter's single diamond. The main
competitive advantage this company has is many assets. This company has been doing well
in its life since its revenue continues to beat that of its competitors. Its main competitor Pfizer
has revenue of $26 billion less compared to J & J, which generates 79.3 billion in a year.
Since the pharmaceutical industry requires substantial capital to run due to a lot of expenses
associated with the manufacturing of medicines, inventing new medicines and medical
services J & J becomes advantageous because it has set a lot of capital to fulfill these interests
(Vlados and Charis, 2019)
The demand for J & Js products is another advantage that makes it a leader in the
pharmaceutical market. The company has incomparable demand for its cancer drug called
Imbruvica, a blood thinner drug called Xarelto, and an autoimmune drug called Remicade.
However, other competing companies that produce the same drugs as J & J are emerging,
putting the company at risk. If these competitors remain in a small number, J & J will
continue being unbeatable. Also, J & J has developed relationships with segments such as
insurance companies, suppliers, doctors, and clinics, among others, a strategy that its
competitors have not been able to establish.
Competition between J & J and other companies in the same industry is very intense.
