Talent Management Process
The most critical stage of the talent management process is talent acquisition. The current
business world has turned into a fierce battlefield where competitors are working tirelessly to
hedge each other out of the arena. Indeed, talent acquisition has become a golden concept that
every organization must consider and approach carefully, keeping in mind the anticipated future
and the role the acquired talent is to play in attaining that future. According to DeTuncq and
Schmidt (2013), talent acquisition entails “attracting, selecting, and acquiring” the perfect
candidates equipped with the necessary talents to achieve organizational goals and objectives
(par. 6). The authors continue to underline the significance of talents being “acquired at the right
time, in the right place, and for the right price” (DeTuncq & Schmidt, 2013, par. 6). Each of
these attributes signifies the true essence of talent acquisition, for it defines the exact path an
organization will take going forward. Indeed, acquiring the right talent can prove invaluable
while acquiring the wrong talent can be disastrous to an organization is multiple dimensions.
At Amazon, talent has always been and continues to be a critical stage in talent
management. Indeed, the company has established remarkably high standards in talent
acquisition, often utilizing unorthodox methods to ensure that they get the best candidates out of
the best. For instance, the concept of peer-reviewed hires, coupled with the “bar raiser” program
works especially well in the identification and acquisition of the ideal candidates possessing the
perfect talents for the specific positions within the organization (BasuMallick, 2019). This is
important since organizational success is directly dependent upon the quality of its employees
which is tied to talent acquisition (Breaugh, 2016). Therefore, to maintain its position as one of
