Writing process
Writing process is very important for any good writing. There are several types of writing
processes. A writing workshop usually means a cooperative place dedicated to writing, which
both stimulates and solicits the participants' creativity, in particular by means of voluntary
artistic inducers and " constraints " proposed to the group by the facilitator . Like all group
artistic practices, the writing workshop can have different objectives (creation, training,
initiation, fight against illiteracy, therapeutic aim) according to the public and the institutional
places in which it develops. The writing techniques, inspired during communication and
journalism, help ensure that a text serves as perfectly as possible its original purpose: to inform,
report, train, educate, identify, entertain, sell, convince, Share, etc.
They can be numerous and specific insofar as they concern all categories of writing: the author
seeks a certain effectiveness with regard to a differentiated problematic destined for a readily
segmented environment or target. On the other hand, these techniques are not fixed: they evolve
with the language, the professions and the good practices of the writing. But are rarely known
and properly implemented by most editors.
Writing workshops generally work from small groups supervised by a speaker who proposes a
form of writing. This can be based on the reading of an author's text or, more simply, a theme
proposed by the speaker, illustrated using sentences or words that are more or less directly
related to the theme. Participants write, then can work on each other's productions, or simply
read and comment on the proposed texts. The key word of these workshops is the exchange,
which is materialized in a constructive criticism of the texts proposed, whether by the intervener
or the other participants. The objective of these workshops is that everyone can contribute freely
without fear of negative judgment on the part of others.
Encourage proofreading during the first drafts. Students who express themselves well in second
language writing seem to re-read themselves frequently, much more than first language students.
This break allows you to focus on the vocabulary and structure of the second language. Writing
the first draft quickly and without proofreading may not always be a good second language
suggestion.
The first draft can be very influenced by the “interlanguage” of immersion, which is normal
because young people tend to write in the language of their environment. These manifestations
of interlanguage must be corrected during the revision and correction stages.
Text planning can be done partly in English since writing in a second language is a complex
process that calls on skills acquired in the first language. If the student is thinking or writing
notes in English, this is not a problem. Do not, however, allow the entire text to be written in
English and then translate it.
