pivotal in facilitating how businesses models changed, adoption of e-commerce and
globalization. This has created numerous employment opportunities, enhancing the economic
backgrounds of many families. The accessibility of information has also become easier, and this
has improved the knowledge and education levels (Hope, 2017).
The internet, however, also has its cons. One of these negative effects is student over-reliance on
the internet in their academic work. This has crippled their ability to do independent researches
which will help in developing their skills as well as the mastery of their areas of specialization.
Most young student are not able to distinguish reliable sources in academic work, and this may
mislead them when they are searching for answers or explanations. A lot of information is
published by individuals with no authority in the area.
Besides the academic work, the internet has exposed the young generation to unprecedented
immorality where most of them engaged in social media sites which has chat rooms that have sex
predators preying for the young and naïve users. These sites have offered such predators an
opportunity to be anonymous which supports them in luring the unsuspecting young users
(Orem, 2017).
Some businesses have also created a celebrity culture which has resulted in making the young
people to live a life that depends on the approval of other people who are the followers in the
social media. Most of the young people live to justify the responses they get from their followers
in the social media. It is for this reason that I think that the internet should be moderated so that
the young people are not exposed to the sites that corrupt their morality.
