Bullying
Have you ever been bullied? If you have, then you know what it’s like. Bullying is a
major issue on the internet, schools, and all over the world. Did you know that bullying and
harassment was linked to 75% of school shooting incidents?Bullying can lead to suicide,
lower self-esteem, cause many disorders, and stall education.
Firstly, bullying is a main cause of suicide and self-esteem problems. Teenagers that
are being bullied are 7 to 9 % more likely to consider suicide according to some studies.
Suicide is the third leading cause of death amongst teens, which results in about 4,400
teens dying because of suicide. Additionally, many teens have self-esteem problems due to
bullying. The more bullies insult them, the more they’re going to believe what they’re saying.
Thus, making their confidence lower.
Secondly, bullying also causes many diseases or disorders and stalls teenagers’
education. For example, when you call someone fat, it can make them starve themselves.
And if they continue doing that, they can develop anorexia. Also, people injure themselves a
lot when they’re being bullied (cutting their wrists…). Additionally, about 160,000 students
skip school every day to prevent themselves from being bullied. Not going to school stops
you from learning many valuable things that may help you in your future. Not to mention that
some of these students drop out of school.
Thirdly, bullying isn’t acceptable. For that reason, we should all work together to find
ways to end bullying. More than ⅔ of students believe that schools respond poorly to
bullying, they also believe that help from others is infrequent and ineffective. There are many
ways to try and reduce bullying. First of all, if you see someone being bullied, contact an
adult or confront the bully personally. Secondly, kids are also being bullied on the internet
(cyber bullying). So to stop that from happening, teens shouldn’t speak to strangers on the
internet and parents need to pay attention to what their kids are doing on the internet.
In conclusion, we should all stand up against bullying because it can lead to suicide,
lower self-esteem, cause many disorders, and stall education. How would you feel if your
brother or sister was being bullied? For that reason, we should all stand up against bullying,
to make the world a better place.
