CASE STUDY ON OSH PROGRAM PROPOSAL 2
Introduction
The paper identifies three OSH program proposals that should be adopted based on the
case study provided. Among the three programs identified include the program to manage and
control heat stress, the program related to Powered Industrial Vehicles, and program related to
Personal Protective Equipment.
Program 1- Heat Stress
Justification for the program
Heat stress prevention programs should receive immediate attention. Heat stress is the
warming of the body caused internally by the use of muscles or externally by the environment.
Heat exhaustion and heat attack results when the body is reheated by heat. As the heat rises, the
body temperature and heartbeat increase without causing pain. An increase in average body
temperature by two degrees Fahrenheit can affect the functioning of the head (Reese, 2017). An
increase in five degrees Fahrenheit of body temperature can result in severe health or death
effects. In hot weather, heat-related illnesses can be the cause of other types of injuries, such as
heart attack, falls, and equipment accidents. Most claims for compensation in heat-related
diseases. These consequences justify the need to have a heat stress prevention program.
Identification and assessment
There should be specific health surveillance aimed mainly at the identification of workers
who are at risk of presenting heat disorders. The monitoring should consider personal
characteristics such as age, obesity, and pregnancy status or by medical problems such as
cardiocirculatory (Reese, 2017).
