What are the issues or challenges?

Currently, a neglect of cultural differences has prevented the achievement of global

health goals. The cultural behaviors of individuals and groups should be better understood and

recognized in order to improve health and reduce waste of health resources. At present, the

provision of health services is not culturally sensitive, and it has not dominated the rules and

values of supply and demand. We do not know how cultural systems influence patients' attitudes

to health, nor do we understand how and why certain cultures play a role in certain hospitals,

clinical practices, and other health service delivery. For human health, culture should be given

priority. Suppliers should recognize their own cultural values and treat them with care, and

medical and health institutions should provide services on the premise of understanding the

cultural nature of their behavior (Fadiman, 2012).

Who is affected?

Inability to address cultural issues in health care affect doctors, patients, healthcare

providers and the nation at large.

How or in what way are they affected?

For doctors, if they want to improve patient compliance, they should be more sensitive to

the rules and values of health service demand. If patients do not understand the benefits of

adherence under the influence of their own values system, the provider cannot provide effective

services to patients. Although human-centered health services have been included in the World

Health Organization's "Health 2020 plan," it is unclear how to restructure the new model with a

focus on biomedicine. The World Health Organization needs to take a close look at its levels of

prejudice and prestige, because this hierarchy is responsible for long-standing cultural
