Seattle Space Needle Protection Plan
After the attack of 9/11 and the devastation of Hurricane Katrina it became necessary for the
government, state, and individual business to create a plan to prevent or mitigate the risks as well
as to respond in the event of a disaster. In terrorist attacks and during the natural disaster
important landmarks become vulnerable to becoming destroyed. In this destruction there is a
potential for injury or death as well as delays in business. The Seattle Space Needle was built in
1962 and served as a symbol for the World Fair. The Space Needle was built as a representation
of the World Fair but has become an important international landmark.
The Space Needle is a symbol to people in Washington but also to citizens all over the world.
While the Space needle does not hold important businesses that are essential to American trade
as the World Trade Centers, the Space Needle is an important American landmark. The space
needle does consist of a few businesses including a revolving restaurant on the top floor and a
gift shop on the bottom level and the observation deck. Customer can also rent out the banquet
room and have an event at the Seattle Space Needle. Most of all the Seattle Space Needle is
designed to provide visitors with a beautiful, panoramic view of the entire city.
Assess Risk
The Seattle Space Needle may not be a business hub but it does receive a lot of visitors every
year. If the building were attacked the loss of life could be substantial as well as a high cost in
damage. While the Seattle Space Needle does not contain a large number of businesses and if
attacked would not stop trade or industry in the city it is still an important enough landmark to be
