Leadership and Ethics
As a leader, it is important to not only understand what common biases are but to also have the
self-awareness to understand those that they possess. Only through this self-awareness can a
leader minimize errors in the decision-making process. What could be the result if self-
awareness is not attained?
Self-awareness is the conscious knowledge of oneself in character and strengths and
weaknesses. A leader is expected to be supposedly bestowed with the self-awareness as the
guiding figure of the firm or organization they’re steering. Self-awareness helps one to
understand and managing biases. This concept of managing biases is linked to self-awareness
because the by understanding self, it becomes easy to understand others. Understanding how we
perceive information is a crucial part that helps us to be self-conscious when faced with biases
(Bratton, et al., 2011). Leaders with no self-awareness are marred with poor decision-making
skills and exhibit a tendency to quickly prefer what they are familiar with. Although liking
people who look like us is not a negative aspect, it prevents us from exploring other alternatives
that may actually work to our advantage.

Decision making must be balanced, taking into consideration both short-term and long-term
business outcomes. Explain how common biases, bounded awareness, emotions, and motivation
affect the decision-making process.
Both short-term and long-term aspects of any decision should be considered. This is so
because short-term decisions serve a certain purpose. When faced with a decision to make ahead
of us, many forces act to influence our choice in form of decision. Much of the influences of the
decision-making process are prone to ignoring key facts that form the best part of information by
engaging or focusing on other aspects like biases, bounded awareness and emotions. Those are
some of the key decision making factors that influence the choice of solution to the identified
problem. Emotions may influence sympathy or dislike for certain people we may find
uninteresting to us, just like bounded awareness may prevent us from gaining any interest from
people we perceive to be of no importance to us. All these factors seem to affect our decision
making in the wrong way since much of the important information is never considered prior to
forming any decision.
What ethical factors should be taken into consideration when making a decision?
Ethics calls for an inclusive decision-making process. The key to attaining an ethically
bound decision is to involve others who are subject to the decision in hand in developing the
framework for the solution. When leadership allows those in lower ranks to feel been part of an
important event in decision-making, teamwork and hence better performance upon evaluation are
bound to be realized. Neglecting others in framed a decision that is going to affect them is not
ethical since their interest have not been taken into consideration by the managed; rather the
decision has been forced to them. For example, if the international financial reporting standards
