EUTHANASIA AND PHYSICIAN-ASSISTED SUICIDE 2
Euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide are two terms have been synonymous among
different healthcare and human rights circles. The two have been considered as some of the tools
in healthcare that are useful in ending the life of a patient or rather reducing the suffering of a
patient. Generally, euthanasia is rather considered as intentional killing for the person who feels
he is never worth to live again and is carried out by a doctor through administering a lethal
substance into the bloodstream of the patient. On the other hand, an assisted suicide results from
a patient wanting to end his life through the assistance of a doctor (Radbruch et. al, 2016). The
doctor work in assisted suicide is to offer the assistance through giving the lethal drugs but does
not administer them. The patient in assisted suicide is to make the decision himself. Both acts are
considered morally wrong and unethical in the profession since they are procedures of killing.
Though considered unethical and wrong, I would seek to support the euthanasia
especially for patients who are in terminal illnesses and have no hope of coming back to normal
state. Such a patient is mostly seen as a burned not only to the loved ones and the caregivers but
also to the economy as they continue to incur bills. Such a person is a will to end their life which
those who cannot consent on the same, a doctor can conduct a procedure as he or she seeks to
relieve the patient of the pain and reduce the agony among the loved ones and the caregivers
(Radbruch et. al, 2016). In essence, everyone should enjoy the right to die at whatever means
while in such states. They can choose how to die and how to get rid of the constant pains.
Therefore, there should be a good legal framework on how euthanasia should take place and
remove the illegal tag.
