Hello,
You are quite right in observing that Chip Bergh's first order of business as the new CEO
of Levi Strauss was to hold one-on-one discussions with the firm's top executives to gain a better
understanding of his new firm. It is also true that the conversation revealed that the organization
lacked a clear strategic vision and direction. The top executives that Strauss conversed with
could not articulate clearly the firm’s strategic direction. It is also true that Strauss worked with
the company’s employees to identify growth opportunities and improve customer experience to
grow the business.
You are quite right in observing that Constantinide’s article evaluates the Marketing
Mix's relevance to five areas of marketing. Your observation that Constantinide’s concluded that
the four elements of the 4Ps Marketing mix are not relevant to each of the five marketing areas is
correct. I agree with your claim that the understanding of customer needs, wants, and desires are
critical to marketing management. Businesses seek to generate profit through satisfying customer
needs, wants, and desires (Yap, Ramayah, & Shahidan, 2012). Therefore, it is important that the
marketing manager focuses on identifying customer needs, wants, and desires.
One of Levi Strauss’s problem was the lack of a clear strategic vision. The Bible requires
Christians to have a clear vision. Habakkuk 2:2 states, “And the Lord answered me: “Write the
vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it." The Bible verse not only
emphasizes the importance of vision in one's life as a Christian but also in one's ordinary life.
Levi Strauss was performing poorly partly because of the lack of a clear vision. The new CEO
improved the firm by helping create a clear vision.
