Symptoms might include a sharply elevated mood known as mania, which may last for two days. They may then suddenly shift to depression within a short period, and the depression may last for at least two weeks (Nakaya, 2016). The disorder is also known as manic depression or bipolar disease. People with the condition have problems in managing in their daily lives. There is no known treatment for the disorder, but several treatment options exist for managing the condition. The disease is not as rare as it occurs in many people. The symptoms mainly start manifesting when a person reaches the age of 25 (Nakaya, 2016). In this paper, I will be discussing bipolar disorder among older people. Bipolar disorder among older people is seen to have both therapeutic and diagnostic challenges (Carvalho & Vieta, 2017). This is because the symptoms of the condition get worse with time if it is not addressed, and the patient starts therapy.
