Civil disobedience serves to make the cry of the governed heard. Bad governance and
unjust laws dominate the rhetoric. Several acts of injustice by the government, such as heavy
taxation, inadequate education programs, and facilitation by the government and interference
with legal services, are depicted. Paying due attention to various forms of governance, the best
way of a government is that which fully represents the people who bestow power. Governments
should lead people so well that each of them is ready and willing to abide by the law. The article
also considers the role of citizens in facilitating the various aspects of governance, such as voting
exercises and ensuring that only enlightened and wise leaders are voted into a system. However,
Thoreau laments that today, the government doesn’t pay any attention to the wise minority
(opposition).
The article also denotes that those fronted by the political parties as candidates are, in
most cases, not fit for their positions. Still, since the electorate lacks any other option, people
have to choose between two or more unqualified candidates. There is also an aspect of
revolutions in the article. The author argues that it takes only a few people with sound ideologies
to front a powerful but necessary rebellion against leadership that cannot be withstood by the
subjects. Consequently, there are several things to expect in a revolution, mainly where a large
portion of the nation comprises of people who know what rights should be done but choose to
stay mum over such issues. Such people who are afraid to counter the various government
excesses are the most dangerous enemies of the country since they hinder justice, progress, and
humanity.
Massachusetts is fronted as an enemy of the people where many people are concerned
about their businesses than the love for humanity. However, the state has so many people who
