You may find yourself wondering, “But what are developmentally appropriate practices?” A simple definition of developmentally appropriate practices would be a setting and curriculum that meets the physical, cognitive, and emotional needs of children stemming from child development theories and observations of children's individual strengths and weaknesses, (Bietz, 2019). A DAP classroom is an environment that uses active learning that involves a balance between teacher-led and child-centered growth. By incorporating an active learning environment, a teacher helps children develop a sense of community, make decisions, and resolve conflicts, (Bietz, 2019). .
