Leadership vs. Management Matrix
Management
Leadership
Actions
Management involves a focus on the organization, policy
development and compliance, implementation of systems, and
incremental focused improvements (Hallinger & Chen, 2014).
A good leader is supposed to fortify and support a productive
environment of their followers. Management leaders support
and nurture employees who think independently while good
employees ask questions, ponder tasks and decide the best way
to accomplish their tasks. Tests and questions are posed to
employees so that they deepen critical thinking skills and
innovative approaches to organizational goals (Hallinger &
Chen, 2014).
The University of Phoenix (2014) asserted that managers are
competent to the business model, making and executing plans
and decisions.
Authentic leadership involves the positive moral development
of the leaders and in the authenticity in followers through an
approach that relies on building the leader’s legitimacy
through honest relationships with followers which value their
input and are built on an ethical foundation (Hoch, Bommer,
Dulebohn, & Dongyuan, 2018).
Transformational leadership is a model developed by Burns, a
researcher who stated that transformational leadership
occurred when associates in an organization could connect
with each other in their task (Goertzen, 2014).
