Qualitative research defines the type of research that provides descriptive, detailed, and
information or data as opposed to statistical and predictive information. Note that qualitative
research is used in marketing to research and discover the experience of the respondents with a
product or service rather than the quantity of the product or service. Further, note that qualitative
research tends to use open-ended questions to allow the customers or the respondents to describe
their emotions, perceptions, or behaviors that push them towards having their various purchase
behaviors. Note that examples of qualitative research methods are in-depth interviews and focus
groups. Therefore, note that an example of when marketing would benefit from this method is
when a company is introducing a new idea or product in the market where qualitative research
can be used to help the company identify how the target market is likely to react to the new idea
or product. Additionally, another example is when a company or organization wants to capture
the real reaction of the public to their advertisements of a product or service where qualitative
research can capture reactions such as body reactions and voice intonations that will help identify
if the public loves the advertisements or not.
Quantitative research can be seen as the opposite of qualitative research where this type
of research tends to as questions in an organized manner through the use of methods such as
surveys and questionnaires. Note that quantitative research collects data that is informed of
statistics and numbers which help a company or organization to be informed about the
phenomena of 'how many". Further, also note that quantitative research mainly focuses on
quantity and a structured method of data collection. Therefore, note that in marketing, an
example of when marketing would benefit from this method would be when a company wants to
know how well their product is doing in the market by using when marketing would benefit from
this method to identify the number of customers that are purchasing their product in the market.
