Module 01 Course Project - Strengths and Weaknesses and Elevator Pitch
Strengths and Weaknesses and Elevator Pitch
Knowing your strengths and weaknesses is very important in all aspects of life, but
especially in your career field. It is so important because you can highlight the strengths and
work on your weaknesses. For this course I took the Skills Matcher Self-Assessment found on
the website careeronestop.org. This assessment seems to be spot on, you take a short survey and
then it lists areas that you are strong in, and areas that you are not so strong in. According to the
survey some of my strengths lay in customer and personal service, instruction, and monitoring.
Some of my weaknesses were time management and telecommunications.
My professional career thus far includes mostly customer service orientated jobs but last
year I decided I was ready for a change and decided to enroll in school to get my associate
degree in business. In the management field, I think my strengths listed from the assessment
would be very useful. Customer and Personal Service would be useful in any career field
because you are always going to have to interact with different people, whether that be customers
and/or coworkers. Customer and Personal Service include familiarity with principles and
procedures for providing customer and personal services. including customer needs assessment,
meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
Instructing is another one of my skill sets listed in my assessment. This one is just
teaching people how to do something. I have never realized that I was good at instructing people,
but it does make sense because I was a general manager at one point and I am also a parent as
well, so I instruct on a daily sometimes hourly basis. Instructing would be valuable in the
management field because there are different levels of management. Therefore, I would be able
to help my peers learn and adapt to new things.
