Jazz Concert Report
I attended an orchestra identified as “The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra ft. Wynton
Marsalis”. I attended it on 25
th
March 2022 on YouTube. At the start of the concert, the orchestra
was seen standing on the stage (Marsalis, 2020). On the other hand, a bid crowd of the audience
was seen seating on the auditorium seats. The concertmaster then came out in a bid for tuning the
orchestra.
The first piece which I was exposed to was “The Sound of Colors’’. This piece was
composed by Victor Goines. Many musical instruments were used in a bid for playing this peace.
Some of the instruments were violin, saxophone, trumpet, and many others. The piece used many
major and minor 7

painting identified as Still Life with the Flowers could be seen in the background. Through this
painting, it was evident that art played an essential role in expressing the unique inner world of
the artist who composed this piece.
The other piece which was played in this concert was “Sherman Irby’s “A Hot Jam on
Grand’’. It was evident that this piece was inspired by Grace Hartigan’s artwork known as
“Rough, Aint It’’. That is, the new compositions by the orchestra’s members were directly
influenced by works of art present in the Crystal Bridges Museum of American art. Such a piece
was characterized by syncopated rhythms and frequent thoughtful deviations of pitch (Marsalis,
2020). It was also characterized by fluctuating degrees of improvisation. The other piece which
the orchestra introduced me to is identified as “Black Balloon’’. This piece was composed by
Christopher Crenshaw. The instruments which were used in this piece include trombone,
saxophone, and many others. The detail and rhythm of this piece spoke about spontaneity as well
