Questions to Be Graded Worth 100 points
Use complete sentences, proper grammar and formulate answers in your own
words. You may paraphrase the textbooks but you should not copy from the texts

Date Due:
1. Describe the independent t-test as far as what it is, what it examines as far as
sample and variables, its uses, and assumptions and limitations. Also discuss
how the degrees of freedom (df) is used with the t-test and its calculation
formula. Generate a null hypothesis that would be appropriate to test with
the independent t-test as well as alternate hypothesis. This should be a fairly
lengthy discussion. Use both the Groves & Cipher text as well as the Pallant
textbook (50 points).
a. An independent t test is an inferential statistical test that determines
whether there is a statistically significant difference in the mean between
two unrelated groups. In a null hypothesis mean 1 is equal to mean 2; an
alternative hypothesis will be that mean 1 is not equal to mean 2. The
degree of freedom is calculated based on number of elements in the
sequence and the formula is df=(n1+n2)-2 and it is used to determine the
rejection region.
***Example; NCLEX?
2. Describe the Levene F and KolmogorovSmirnov (K-O) tests and how they
are used with an independent t-test. Discuss the null hypothesis with both
tests are in relation to question one above. What does it mean if there the
tests result in significant findings (25 points)
a. The levene F test is used to measure between two groups that have an equal
variance before running a test like ANOVA. For the null hypothesis the
variance is equal within all the samples. Kolmogorov-Smirnov test is used to
test if a sample comes from a population with specific distribution. Its null
hypothesis is determined when the two samples we test come from the same
distribution. If the test is significant, the p value will be less than the alpha
level consequently rejecting the null hypothesis and determining an alternative
