BRAIN GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENTS 2
Effects of Brain Growth and Developments as Well As Physical Growth and Development on
Childhood
Scenario 1
Autism spectrum is a development disorder that affects the cerebellum, which is a brain
region, by reducing parts of its size (Zhaoet al., 2018). This disorder also affects the frontal lobe,
and its cognitive functions. It leads to a smaller volume of the hippocampus and amygdala,
increases the sizes of the ventricles, and reduces the volume of the caudate nucleus.
The reduced size of the cerebellum leads to a deficit in cognitive functions, and affects
one’s language development as well as his social, and affective behavior. The frontal lobe is
affected in the sense that white matter, and grey matter increase hence altering the neural
integrity, and connectivity of this part. Reduced volume of the hippocampus leads to a decreased
visual, and verbal memory whereas the reduced volume of the amygdala leads to deficits in
inhibitory control which enhances self-control. Reduced volume of the caudate nucleus causes
repetitive, and stereotyped behaviors.
Charlie is on an individualized education program that offers a wide range of advantages
for his physical, and biological well-being. Through this program, he enjoys daily schedules,
visual assignment instructions, and teaching on how to enhance his social skills in class. He also
gets to learn the use of voice recognition software when typing, or tackling assignments to
enhance his verbal communication. Finally, he makes use of visual charts in the process of
breaking down concepts. This whole process plays a key role in shaping him.
Autism leads to delayed language development which affects a child’s classroom
participation especially when directions are given verbally, or through facial cues (Tager-
Flusberg,.et al 2005). This disorder goes on to affect one’s social interaction, in that the child
