PHYSIOLOGICAL NURSING DIAGNOSIS
2
The Most Important Physiological Nursing Diagnosis for a Patient
Several physiological nursing diagnoses, such as impaired skin integrity, could be
considered. However, acute pain is the most important problem-oriented physiological nursing
diagnosis for this patient.
Physiological Nursing Diagnosis Determination
The concepts of data clusters and Gordon’s patterns played a key role towards the
determination of the most essential problem-oriented physiological nursing diagnosis. The whole
idea was to determine how certain data clusters influenced others (Masih, n.d.). After studying
the relationship between various data clusters, the possible diagnoses were organized based on
the influence of the data cluster they relate with. Pain was the most influential data as it was
connected to various data such as “I don’t think I can walk this morning”, “sharp and constant
pain”, “restlessness”, and guarding the abdomen. As a result, acute pain is the most important
physiological nursing diagnosis for this patient.
Method of Prioritization
One could deploy any of the diagnoses whose traces were found in the data. However, all
the possible diagnoses were ranked based on the influence of the data they are connected to. The
diagnosis connected to the most influential data was ranked the highest while the one whose
interconnected data was least prevalent was ranked the lowest.
