STRATEGY IN MARKETING
Targeting is a strategy in marketing that has capability to divide the market into smaller parts.
There are different types of customers in the society. Each type has different specifications.
So that the product we launch should be in such way that unique type of customers are also
served. We solely concentrate on serving such unique customer’s characteristics. Instead of
concentrating on all the customers in the market, our product should connect with specific
predefined set of people with their whole energy.
Generally there are four different types of segments of people in the market. They are based
on geographical, behavioural, psychographic and demographic segmentation. In geographic
segmentation locality, area, state, country, nationality comes in to picture with which the
marketing strategy may differ. In the case of behavioural segment, customer changes with
their purchasing and spending habits; and also brand interactions.
In the same way in demographic segment customers belonging to set of age group, same
gender, and same religion are together stated as unique set of people with same requirements.
Specific brands and segmentation of the market concentrates more and allows the market to
enjoy their benefits and products
For example, suppose toothpaste which has a strain removing formula. That is a specific
feature which helps a segment of market that had stains on their teeth
Positioning matrix is a graphical tool used for visualizing the position and status of the
product in the market and also helps in determining the position of the similar products and
services. This helps in capital budgeting. As capital budgeting plays a vital role in the
marketing decisions though it take much time.
