How Pay Programs Impact Employee?
How does pay influence employee behavior?
Several ways pay influences the behavior of employees. For instance, employees get
motivated by salary they ear for the work done. It is a fact that the salaries that employees earn
have a great influence on their performance. Also, the level of appreciation that employees feel
to have an overall effect on their performance at the workplace. Similarly, employees are more
likely to perform to their best level provided that they are happy with the salary they earn. Better
pay programs result in higher levels of job satisfaction and commitment, along with reduced
levels of employee turnover (Cascio, 2016, p. 305). Employees earning a high salary usually feel
motivated to do an exemplary job since they want to please employers to enable them to retain
their positions at the workplace.
How does pay influence the composition of the organization’s workforce?
There are several ways through which the salaries influence the composition of the
workforce in an organization. There is an increasing recognition that employee pay programs
may determine nature as well as the composition of an organization's workforce. There are
different payment systems, which appear to attract individuals with different personality traits as
well as values. For instance, organizations which relate employee performance are more likely to
attract individualistic employees. On the other hand, organizations which rely on team rewards
tend to be more likely to attract team-oriented employees.
Describe how pay is or is not an effective motivator
In my own experience, I believe that pay is an effective motivator. According to Cascio
(2016, p. 292), an improved economy, one-way companies are trying to keep their employees
satisfied. Meaning that money is an effective motivator that makes employees work hard. In
every workplace, it is usually natural to compete and when rewarded with salary for better work,
productivity becomes raised. Therefore, better pay can be used as an equitable and a very
acceptable way to reward individuals for the work done.
