The Millennials position is associated with the issue of interdependence by preferring to
schedule their work based on a timetable and not to rely on the work schedule preferred by the
Baby Boomers. Baby Boomers will push for changes to be made on the rewards system. Baby
Boomers believe that the bonuses should be commensurate with performance whereas the
Millennials support the idea that everyone should be rewarded equally for taking part in the
project. I will require determining and making clarifications on my goals in the negotiation
process. I will ensure that I define and truly understand the terms and conditions of the exchange
and the nature of the conflict between the two parties. I will ensure that I anticipate the same for
all parties, how they might settle the conflict, and what could cause the difference.
The goal of the Millennials is to schedule their work based on a timetable whereas the
goals of the Baby Boomers is to ensure that the bonuses are commensurate with performance.
The Millennials will ask for a work schedule to be based on a time table and all people should be
rewarded equally (Freedom Learning Group, n.d.). Baby boomers will as for the bonuses to be
rewarded based on performance. I think both parties have a hidden agenda since they are
different generations with differences in work motivations. I think they might settle for pay
based on an individual's performance, which is one of the key factors that promote employee
motivation.
Definition of Ground Rules
During the negotiation process, it will be necessary to involve all parties to define the
ground rules as well as the procedures for negotiation. It is important to negotiate a neutral site
since both parties work for the same organization; hence a neutral site will be ideal. There will be
