Unit I: Learning Styles
Part 1 (4 points)
Complete the VARK Questionnaire version 8.01 - http://vark-learn.com/the-vark-
questionnaire/
What is your identified learning style(s)? Multimodal (visual and aural)______________
Part 2 (12 points)
In 1 paragraph, evaluate your learning style. How does your learning style
influence your own education and your ability to acquire new knowledge? Use a
minimum of 1 scholarly reference immediately following the last paragraph and
include a matching in-text citation.
My learning style influences my education and ability to acquire new knowledge
depending on the available content format. A visual and aural learner prefers using diagrams,
maps, graphics, and various layouts as well as discussing and questioning knowledge. According
to Gerdesköld et al. (2017), as person’s learning style affects their knowledge-seeking behavior
and preferred knowledge sources. These styles have to be matched with content presented in the
desired format. For instance, if content is presented only in writing and there is no opportunity to
discuss with my educator or peers, I am likely to face a barrier in gaining knowledge. Therefore,
my learning style requires access to visually appealing content as well as opportunities to
question and discuss with the relevant parties. Failure to get these accommodations may lead to
poor knowledge acquisition.

each style. Visual learners prefer working with drawings, graphics, and visual appeal. The nurse
can utilize this approach by presenting visually appealing information such as diagrams that
educate the people. For instance, the nurse may use a diagram showing the parts of the body
affected by smoking. Visual learners will detect patterns and relate with the content easily.
Moreover, aural learners prefer talking, listening, discussing, and recalling and this can
be created by the community health nurse. The nurse may use opportunities to discuss with the
community various health issues. Focus groups are useful in engaging the community in
discussions and also gaining helpful information from them (Doria et al., 2018). The nurse may
moderate discussions on health in focus groups to promote aural learners. Learners who prefer
reading and writing may be reached through pamphlets and posters with information on health.
The nurse can include this diversity by integrating posters and pamphlets to aid the community
in learning.
Lastly, kinesthetic learners prefer carrying out physical activities rather than learning by
listening. The community health nurse can integrate this learning style by designing activities
that involve the public in physical interactions. Kinesthetic learners in the community may be
involved in modeling health concepts and creating materials that aid in promoting their
knowledge on those concepts (Shannon, 2017). For instance, the community health nurse may
involve learners by moderating sessions where they create concept maps as a means of learning.
Another example is demonstrating and practicing washing hands with the learners.
