A Mother Tongue By Amy Tan
Amy Tan wanted her audience to know how it was for her and her mother learning a new
language. Amy shared her experience as a second generation Asian-american but what made me
want to read more was how she overcame the restraints and stereotypes associated with
bilingualism. The three key points that were found one was Amy's use of several anecdotes,
starting in her childhood and adolescence in which she talked about the shame she felt from her
mother’s limited grasp of the English language.
Another key point is Amy goes on to discuss stereotypes within the education system toward
Asian-Americans students. The three and final key point is how she explains how she overcame
her shame by writing a book that used only English she heard while growing up. The audience
would be the people who have parents from a different country and they also have the same
problem Amy did But it also can be a lesson for a non bilingual people To understand something
like Amy Tan. The challenge faced by this is demographic and May include bigotry School.
Everyone that lives in a country speaks English language. There were other challenges like the
difficulty of garnering from someone who speaks a limited amount of English. Now the thing
that needs to happen is me breaking down the three key points so that everyone will have a better
understanding and to apply a depth and analyze these three key points. the evidence were being
supported by the notes and the article Second generation Asian-American was a state of their
parents broken English but it says to stay away from the interactions with non bilingual the
evidence that the article gave me only screamed in my claim and achieve my goal in the first
paragraph of the body in quotations will be Amy shaming her mother’s English “My mother
limited English limited my perception of her I was ashamed of her English I believe that her
English reflected the quality or what she had to say” ( Amy 21).
Amy shared with the readers about her upbringing and why she pretended to be her mother at
times in the second paragraph Amy experienced stereotyping with the education system where
Amy stated that Asian Americans score higher on math than English. Amy
Thought on weather the teachers push them in that direction “ I was told about my boss at the
time that my writing was one of the worst and I should hone my talent account management” (
Amy 23) Amy then go on to tell how she overcame stereotypes and shame Amy talks about
“using all the Englishes” ( Amy 23) . The book she wrote in quotation “ I knew I had to succeed
where it counted when my mother finished reading about my book and gave me a verdict: easy
to read” ( Amy 23). Writing can only get better making sure to go over and fix every mistake and
rearranging wording and Sentences and it's okay to have someone proofread for any mistakes
and feedback to conclude the target reader is demographic because Amy wanted to how people
