Europe and North American have been among the major global market for the international

trade. These two regions have similarities as well as differences when it comes to freight

systems and the global business. The convergence profoundly impacts the global freight

system in terms of modes and terminals, infrastructure and the growing technology. When it

comes to the configuration of the transport system as well as the logistics networks, Europe

and North America and Europe, have shown their differences.

Freight system has great implication globally as it impacting the trading activities

around the world. North America and Europe being the major regions providing the global

market for good and products around the globe have been in the front line in developing their

freight transport systems. The freight system has led to the rise of different management

practices. As a result of the containerization which is the force behind the standardization of

the world’s freight distribution has resulted in the rise of the global supply chain management

practices (Hesse, 2016). These practices aim at reconciling a variety of prices, efficiency, and

operational constraints globally. As a result, strategies have arisen that have increased global

markets. For instance, within the global maritime shipping networks, new hubs have been

built to connect the regions creating functional regions. It has as well contributed to the

changing of the transport charges for long distances. The reduction in cost has more critical

impacts on the structure and the quality of global trade.

In North America, the concentration of the economic activates is along the coastal regions

where there are manufacturing hinterlands with the gateway as the dominant markets. The

area of North America relies on fewer ports compared to the European gateways. There is

less development of ports that take part in the international shipping networks. Moreover,

there is a high dominance of the Long Beach which is the dominating gateways in the region.

However, there has been a constant increase in international trade and containerization as the

preferred mode of transportation.
