Abstract
The research paper has analyzed the issue of police brutality in the USA. The paper has
further discussed the history of police brutality, analyzed different states laws on police brutality,
and described particular methods being used to stop police brutality. The analysis has focused on
police brutality on African-Americans. The analysis has relied on secondary data sourced from
authentic sources. The paper has established that police brutality is the use of unjustifiable and
excessive force. Police brutality can be traced back to the 1800s where the police were used as a
political tool. In recent times, police brutality has occurred in the 1968 Chicago police riots,
Watts Riots of 1965 and Detroit Riot of 1967. The analysis has established that existing state
laws appears ineffective in stemming the vice. Current methods geared towards stopping the vice
have largely been unsuccessful as instances of police brutality have been on the rice.
