Position Statement
The collaboration system that Walmart uses is Enterprise Collaboration System (ECS). It is a
collection of extranets, Internet, groupware, and other networks required to support communication
across an enterprise (Greenven & Williams, 2017). ECS supports enterprise-wide communication like
sharing files and knowledge to specific teams.
Walmart aims to solve the challenge of communication and collaboration with its scattered
departments. The company experiences the challenge of bringing together all the operations of each
branch, which has numerous employees working in different units but need to communicate with their
supervisors and managers (Walmart, 2016). The company strives to create efficiency in communication
and the time needed to complete specific activities. The reports on each unit need to be channeled to a
central position that can facilitate decision making. The company faces the challenge of collecting,
processing, storing, and sharing information with different people in different teams. This calls for a
need to bring together all workers to communicate, share information, and track tasks' performance.
The ECS helps Walmart improve business and teams' agility by offering flexible work schedules
to achieve organizational goals such as sales targets. The system dismantles all physical barriers in
communication since workers and teams can seamlessly share files and information without leaving
their work units (Greenven & Williams, 2017). ECS for Walmart is connected to the cloud services that
reduce the time that employees, including managers, need to travel to interact with team members on
regular bases. ECS enables dispersed teams to work simultaneously on a single project since all the
members can access the required files, task requirements, and messages. All the information is updated
in real-time, which empowers businesses to manage remote workers easily.
ECS brings everyone on board through communication. This is a critical aspect of the system,
which is termed as group channeling. It involves sharing information with multiple teams from a central
position to ensure all people are updated concerning a company's progress. The system keeps
documents and information on a centralized location, which eases the process of decision making
(Hasting, 2020). ECS has private communication technology, such as individual messaging. Employees
can post their comments on the system concerning the progress of their team. The feature works across
all departments, simplifying communication because all teams share information through one channel
instead of multiple channels like in-person meetings, faxing, and emailing.
Walmart will solve the problem of slow performance of tasks by streamlining the workflow using
ECS. It eliminates barriers that hinder smooth operations by allowing all employees to access the system
and solving their work-related problems (Hasting, 2020). For example, a branch manager can log into
