CASE STUDY ANALYSIS. 2
Abstract
It is essential to have human services in our society since they help the people in need. As
a result, proper skills are required and very crucial in this process. Every community has a
Human Services Department that ensures that each individual understands what resources are
and how they should be distributed to the people living in that region. There are various concepts
and models used to explain the importance of proper decision-making and policy administration.
Consequently, this paper will provide a summary of Opioids and the Political Model of Policy
Analysis. It will also address how the case study supports or disapproves of various models,
elements of Elder and Cobb models, and Kingdon’s three streams approach.
Opioids and the Political Model of Policy Analysis
The case study mainly focuses on how Opioids use has led to increased cases of death in
the United States. It elaborates how many people, including great musicians, have died due to the
overuse of these prescriptions. Notably, the study recognizes the government’s role in the use of
Opioids, which has been debated by institutional and systematic agendas. However, different
narratives are competing on the causes and extent of the problem in the United States. The first
narrative is the big pharma and prescription, which explained that opioids are marketed by
pharmaceutical companies, giving them to doctors who later prescribe them to patients.
Additionally, the case study demonstrates the counter-narrative that elaborates the misplaced
blame as well as misleading statistics. Subsequently, this focuses on Dr. Josh Bloom, who
previously was a pharmaceutical researcher and said that the big pharma and prescription is not
as bad as it seems. He uses criticism to oppose DR. Andrew Kolodny’s idea of prescribing
opioids to relieve chronic pain. Lastly, the case study explains the race and opioid narrative
mainly on the Caucasians who were mostly affected by the opioid prescription.
