Discussion 1
The practices that were exercised in the Rove doctrine are not any different from what
other presidential candidates and administrations have done in the past in amass political
advantage over their opponents in the political realm of the United States. During his tenure as
the White House Chief of staff, Rove was responsible for the Iraq War since he was one of the
principal architects that led the country into a war that has been criticized on many platforms. As
an architect in the war, Rove has been blamed for the deadly nature of the war. More than four
thousand American soldiers have died since the start of the war. More than 40,000 American
soldiers have also been injured due to the war. The biggest fatalities in the war were civilians in
Iraq and Afghanistan. Independent sources suggest that more than 400,000 civilians and Iraqi
soldiers were killed due to the war. These examples are a clear indication of the costly nature of
war in the country.
Several examples of leaders, such as Rove can be seen in American history. In each of
these instances, people who are in charge of making critical policies pursue their personal
interests and this leads to widespread suffering of the people. A leader who made such wrong
decisions was Robert McNamara. McNamara was the Secretary of Defense under JFK and
Johnson and has been cited for having been the main architect of the Vietnam War (Shafritz, &
Borick, 2015). A bible verse that can be integrated into the light of the doctrine is Judges 2:16.
The verse states that God raises judges who deliver his people from people who plunder them.
The verse means that God will always protect his people from leaders who do not have the best
interests of the people at heart.
