A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW OF HEALTHCARE BIG DATA 2
A Systematic Review of Healthcare Big Data”
Summary
Raja, Mukherjee and Sarkar (2020) performed a systematic review of literature about big
data used in healthcare. The authors used the past and progressive articles that analyzed different
outlooks about the big data in the sector. The articles also explored the sources of the big data,
identified the techniques and tools used for the analytics of healthcare big data, and highlighted
the prospective benefits and use of big data in the sector, and drew attention to manage the
existing challenges. According to the authors, digitalization has led to an increase in data used in
the healthcare sector over the past decade. Therefore, researches have continuously analyzed the
data for quality medical services. Specifically, the authors evaluated 34 journal articles published
between 2015 and 2019. They used zdnet.com to define dig data and defined it as a set of
widespread and complex sets of data that are difficult to manage using the traditional database
(Goyal, 2020).
The article considers big data to be generated by computerized system and social
networking sites. It is transmitted by the sensor devices, digital system, cameras, handheld
devices and smartphones. In healthcare industry, there are huge volumes of healthcare data as a
result of the growth in technology and digitization of health records. Electronic Medical Records
(EMRs) includes health history, clinical reports, biometric data, physician notes, as well as other
health data. However, the article is limited in that the authors performed an electronic searching
process using two databases and skipped the rest while looking for the quality of the articles.
Overall, the work is a summary of the present studies based on big data within the healthcare
sector, and which will assist researchers in their future health studies.
