Discussion
Both the articles listed above discuss about the concept of flying cars, or more precisely VTOL
(vertical takeoff and landing aircraft). Flying car is a futuristic concept which has been exciting
to the human race since a long time. Recently, many companies have actually started research
and have even demonstrated prototypes which make the dream of flying cars achievable. This
discussion focuses on comparing 2 articles which present information about this concept.
The article from popular media is titled “Your flying car may almost be here”, and it mainly
discusses the current stage of a few leading companies who are building them. It also gives
information about what are they building and when to expect the launch. This article concludes
that a lot of research and development is going in these concepts and prototypes are being tested.
It also says that although it might take a long time to actually see flying cars being used by
people as common as cars on road right now, current speed of development can make it quicker.
The journal article, on the other hand, focuses on whether flying cars can be useful. It takes
various sources into consideration to study if flying cars or VTOLs are practical or not. The main
reason where VTOLs become better than cars on road is congestion issue. With VTOLs, it is like
having almost infinite number of roads connecting two points! However, this article concludes
that Flying cars will not be sustainable for short commute. They can be a great option for
commute greater than 100 miles or so, but for shorter commute, roadway cars will still be
